Description

The person in this position will work under the supervision of the district’s special programs director and the building principal and is responsible for teaching students in grades K-4 in the Structured Learning Center. This person will be responsible for providing, designing and adapting instructional programs for the special educational needs of identified students in a variety of settings, as well as case management of student files. This individual must work cooperatively with other members of the staff to provide students with a well-planned, organized instructional program utilizing data and evidence-based practices. This person is also responsible for directing and training Instructional Assistants. Every licensed Special Educator receives an annual stipend.  ($1,000 for full time employees, pro-rated part time employees). This position is temporary for the remainder of the 2018-19 school year only. 

 

Qualifications Required

  1. Current Oregon Teaching License with a Special Education endorsement;
  2. Experience with meeting the specialized needs of students with a range of moderate to severe disabilities;
  3. Ability to provide appropriate instruction to students based on diagnosed needs;
  4. Skills in using data to make instructional decisions;
  5. Demonstrated behavior management techniques (PBIS);
  6. Proficient in developing and implementing effective behavior intervention plans;
  7. Knowledge of facilitated communication strategies;
  8. Experience with assistive technology;
  9. Understand and adhere to special education law requirements;
  10. Ability to effectively manage time and workload to cover testing, placement, teaching, conferencing, and file management;
  11. Ability to write, implement, and follow up on IEPs for specific students in need of specialized instruction and facilitate IEP meetings;
  12. Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively and collaboratively with colleagues, support staff, administrators, students, parents, and patrons;
  13. Ability to convey to parents and teachers the students’ learning abilities and needs;
  14. Ability to provide direction and training to instructional assistants who are assigned to assist with student instruction;
  15. Knowledge of RTI (Response to Intervention);
  16. Ability to meet the Junction City School District Standards of Competent Teacher Performance and the Oregon Standards for Professional Educators.
