This position is grant-funded and is under the general supervision of the KITS Lead Teacher and Site Supervisor. The person in this position assists the lead teacher in implementing the School Readiness Group curriculum 5 times/week including behavior management techniques consistent with the Kids in Transition to School (KITS) model and philosophy including appropriate use of reinforcement and limit setting. Attend weekly clinical meetings. Complete impressions about each child and group as a whole after each session. This position is temporary for the length of the grant.  Training: Up to 40 hours during the last two weeks of June.  Summer hours: M-F, 7/5-8/13

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Tasks to be Performed

  1. Assist with lessons and role-plays;
  2. Under the direction of a licensed teacher, providing supplemental practice in various learning experiences, including drills and activities using learning strategies designed to reinforce or modify skills.
  3. Demonstrate regular and acceptable attendance and punctuality, as set forth in Board Policy.
  4. Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, and community members and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
  5. Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to supervisor.
  6. Monitor flow and timing of activities;
  7. Monitor overall behavior and interactions among the group;
  8. Work with Oregon Social Learning Center Director, Lead Teacher, and site supervisor
  9. Ongoing assessment of children’s strengths and needs;
  10. Coordinate with program supervisor and team to develop adaptations and support for individual student needs
  11. Participate in the weekly clinical team meetings
  12. Helping students develop positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults; promoting the safety of the students by helping them develop self-confidence.
  13. Maintains a safe and secure environment for students at all times.

SUPERVISION

Instructional assistance is provided under the professional guidance of a teacher who is responsible for discussing and preparing lesson plans and approving instructional techniques.  Administrative supervision and evaluation is provided by the building principal or other administrative supervisor.

The work environment combines standard office setting including standard office equipment (fax, copier, phone, computer, 10-key, etc.) with the standard classroom setting.
